The Association of Power Utilities of Africa (APUA), formerly known as the Union des Producteurs, Transporteurs et Distributeurs d'Energie Electrique en Afrique (UPDEA), was created in 1970, with headquarters in Abidjan, in Côte d’Ivoire. Today, the association has 57 active members, as well as affiliate, associate and observer members.

If electricity is the engine of the economy and the level of development of a country can be measured by the amount of energy consumed per capita and per year, the place of power utility in the world is not to be denied: "they are at the heart of our lives" to quote a slogan dear to one of our member companies.

Today, the majority of engineers trained at ESIE hold positions of responsibility in Africa and abroad: Ministers, General Managers, Consultants, etc.
Data Bank
A centralized database for sharing best practices, research and statistics on Africa's power sector.
Energy Pool
An initiative for the interconnection of African power grids, aimed at improving the efficiency and reliability of energy supply.
Standardization
Development of harmonized electrical standards to ensure safety, quality and efficiency throughout Africa.
