Electricity Generation Company (Malawi) Limited (EGENCO) is another Malawian state-owned company that focuses on power generation. It was established in 2016 as a subsidiary of ESCOM, with a mission to generate reliable, safe and cost-effective electric power from diversified energy sources.
EGENCO operates several power plants in Malawi, the most important of which are the Kapichira hydroelectric plant and the Nkula thermal plant. Kapichira is located in southern Malawi and produces approximately 128 MW of power, while Nkula is located in central Malawi and produces approximately 100 MW.
